Where it comes from
Every bean is grown on Kirenge Farm in Kiambu County, Kenya, which our family has farmed since the 1950s. The coffee grows at 1,500 to 1,800 meters on red volcanic soil. It is single-origin, single-farm Kenya Arabica, the largest standard grade of Kenyan bean.
Roasted weekly
We roast in small batches every week in Atlanta and ship within 48 hours.

Caffeine
Dark roast tastes stronger, but it does not have more caffeine. By weight, it has the same caffeine as our light and medium roasts. This is 100% Arabica coffee, in the normal range for coffee: brewed coffee averages about 96 mg per 8 oz cup.

Is dark roast coffee less acidic?
Yes, in taste. Longer roasting breaks down the acids that make coffee bright, so dark roast tastes smoother and less sharp.
Is this coffee good for espresso?
Yes. Buy whole bean and grind fine. It makes a rich shot with a thick crema.
Is dark roast stronger?
In flavor, yes. In caffeine, no.
Will it taste burnt?
No. We watch for the second crack and stop there, which gives depth without a burnt taste.

We start with Kenya AA 100 % arabica, the highest classification in Kenya's grading system, and roast it to bring out deep caramelized sweetness and full body without the char. The result is a bold, intense cup that's bold in all the right ways.
One thing worth knowing: dark roast has essentially the same caffeine as our medium or light roast by weight. What changes is the flavor profile, deeper, richer, and lower in acidity. This also makes it the friendliest option if you have a sensitive stomach.
